Vilas County News Review reported a UW-Madison research project has been looking at possible over-harvesting of walleyes in the ceded territory. They found that 40% of the lakes are being over-harvested and that fish management techniques need to be revised to consider reduced reproduction levels. Climate change and loss of habitat appear to be factors.
The update to the Lake Management Plan has been completed using a grant from the DNR. Once the report is finalized and approved, a copy will be posted on this website. Thank you, Susan Johns for all your work on the project.
